Instructions

There is only one attempt for this quiz.

First, make certain you have reviewed the textbook chapter.

Next, complete the iCivics activities for this module, where you will interact as a stakeholder in a Supreme Court case. Completion of these simulations are required in order to complete this module's assignment.

  • In the Argument Wars you act as a lawyer arguing in front of the Supreme Court. You'll have the chance to review and choose arguments for some actual Supreme Court cases. Be sure to write down which cases you argue.
  • In the Supreme Decision you serve as a Supreme Court Justice's clerk. You listen to the arguments of a freedom of speech case and help the Justice make a decision. As you complete this activity consider the following questions. (You might want to take notes, they will help you finish this session's assignment.)
    • Why did the justices argue about whether Ben’s t-shirt was speech?
    • Why did the justices argue about whether political speech gets more protection than cultural speech?
    • Why did the justices argue about what happened in the Tinker case?
    • Why did the justices in Ben’s case care whether the t-shirts were disruptive?

Note: You do not have to sign into iCivics in order to finish this activity. When asked to do so, click "No Thanks".
