TITLE IX STATEMENT: Ivy Tech Community College is committed to providing all members of the College community with a learning and work environment free from sexual harassment and assault. Ivy Tech students have options for getting help if they have experienced sexual assault, relationship violence, sexual harassment or stalking. This information can be found at https://www.ivytech.edu/prevent-sexual-violence/index.html.
If students write or speak about having survived sexual violence, including rape, sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, or stalking, federal law and Ivy Tech policies require that instructors share this information with the Campus Title IX Coordinator. The Campus Title IX Coordinator will contact students to let them know about accommodations and support services at the College and in the community as well as options for holding accountable the person who harmed them. When contacted, students are not required to speak with the Campus Title IX Coordinator. If students do not want the Title IX Coordinator notified, instead of disclosing this information to their instructor, students can speak confidentially with certain individuals at the College or in the community. A list of these individuals can be found at https://www.ivytech.edu/prevent-sexual-violence/index.html under Confidential Employees and/or Community Resources.
Attendance: Ivy Tech Community College North Central has a “no cut” attendance policy. Because attendance and participation are crucial aspects of successful learning, students are expected to attend every class session and to be in class when the class begins. Attendance is taken every class session and tardiness is recorded. Failure to attend class or repeated tardiness will result in a minimum grade deduction of 2% for every absence after the first absence.
Tardiness, extended breaks, and early departures from class: Students are expected to be in class at the start of the class and attend the entire session. Missing more than 20 minutes of a class session counts as one absence.
Ivy Tech Community College faculty considers attendance critical to your academic success. We want you to succeed and achieve your goals. All absences should be the result of sickness or personal emergencies. Professors may require the documentation of illness or emergency.
Students are expected to attend and participate regularly in class meetings, online learning activities and other activities assigned as a part of a course of instruction. Faculty are required to report student participation in compliance with institutional policies and federal financial aid guidelines. Faculty and staff shall be sensitive to students’ religious beliefs and observances, including an expectation that instructors make reasonable arrangements when a student must miss an exam or other academic exercise due to their religious observance. When notified in advance, and when possible, faculty will make allowances for students to make up missed work.
Contingency Plan (What happens If): Class is never cancelled. There is always a back-up in place in case of weather, building issues, etc. This is a hybrid course, which means we have online work requirements. In situations where face 2 face lectures cannot happen because of issues impacting being able to physically be in the building, students must check Announcements for updates as to what will be in place of coming in to the building. This can be any of the following: lecture recorded for your viewing at a later time via Zoom, YouTube Channel, etc; Alternative Assignment- also loaded in to IvyLearn; Make-up Class date and time. Students must check Announcements. Additionally, you should sign up for IvyAlerts so that you are keep up-to-date on what is happening at your campus.
HUMS 201-51B is a Learn Anywhere course. The class is recorded and should you not be able to attend either in person or during the streaming live session. You need to watch the recording of the course.
Writing Requirements for Human Services Program & Courses:
The HUMS Program and its courses use APA format for writing. There are tools available for you to use for APA. These tools are located within the course: Internship Handouts & Materials; Purdue OWL website; Ivy Tech CC Library page. Also, Ivy Tech has a Writing Center located in the Tutoring Center on the SB Campus which also has resources and writing faculty who can assist you. The Writing Faculty are skilled in the formatting of APA for Research purposes but you must follow the guidelines set forth by the examples given to you for professional writing assignments i.e Case Studies/Case Management Plans
ACTIVITIES:
Because this is a “hybrid” class, you will be expected to make up for class time in online activities, in addition to normal out-of-class homework time. Note this class format takes a great deal of commitment and initiative on behalf of the student. IvyLearn is an important part of the class, where you will find materials and opportunities for class discussion. In addition, you will submit assignments to the instructor in IvyLearn
