----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Attendance: Ivy Tech Community College North Central has a “no cut” attendance policy. Because attendance and participation are crucial aspects of successful learning, students are expected to attend every class session and to be in class when the class begins. Attendance is taken every class session and tardiness is recorded. Failure to attend class or repeated tardiness will result in a minimum grade deduction of 2% for every absence after the first absence.
Tardiness, extended breaks, and early departures from class: Students are expected to be in class at the start of the class and attend the entire session. Missing more than 20 minutes of a class session counts as one absence.
Ivy Tech Community College faculty considers attendance critical to your academic success. We want you to succeed and achieve your goals. All absences should be the result of sickness or personal emergencies. Professors may require the documentation of illness or emergency.
Students are expected to attend and participate regularly in class meetings, online learning activities and other activities assigned as a part of a course of instruction. Faculty are required to report student participation in compliance with institutional policies and federal financial aid guidelines. Faculty and staff shall be sensitive to students’ religious beliefs and observances, including an expectation that instructors make reasonable arrangements when a student must miss an exam or other academic exercise due to their religious observance. When notified in advance, and when possible, faculty will make allowances for students to make up missed work.
Contingency Plan (What happens If): Class is never cancelled. There is always a back-up in place in case of weather, building issues, etc. This is a hybrid course, which means we have online work requirements. In situations where face 2 face lectures cannot happen because of issues impacting being able to physically be in the building, students must check Announcements for updates as to what will be in place of coming in to the building. This can be any of the following: lecture recorded for your viewing at a later time via Zoom, YouTube Channel, etc; Alternative Assignment- also loaded in to IvyLearn; Make-up Class date and time. Students must check Announcements. Additionally, you should sign up for IvyAlerts so that you are keep up-to-date on what is happening at your campus.
Writing Requirements for Human Services Program & Courses:
The HUMS Program and its courses use APA format for writing. There are tools available for you to use for APA. These tools are located within the course: Internship Handouts & Materials; Purdue OWL website; Ivy Tech CC Library page. Also, Ivy Tech has a Writing Center located in the Tutoring Center on the SB Campus which also has resources and writing faculty who can assist you. The Writing Faculty are skilled in the formatting of APA for Research purposes but you must follow the guidelines set forth by the examples given to you for professional writing assignments i.e Case Studies/Case Management Plans
ACTIVITIES:
Because this is a “hybrid” class, you will be expected to make up for class time in online activities, in addition to normal out-of-class homework time. Note this class format takes a great deal of commitment and initiative on behalf of the student. IvyLearn is an important part of the class, where you will find materials and opportunities for class discussion. In addition, you will submit assignments to the instructor via e-mail.
Internship Commitment and requirements prior to start:
- Internship sites must be approved prior to starting hours.
- Affiliation Agreements must be completed and submitted prior to starting hours.
- The assigned site supervisor/mentor must provide his/her resume to the Program Chair (sent electronically to gvaughn@ivytech.edu)
You must complete 160 documented hours for Internship. Failure to complete the hours will result in not Passing this course. You need to schedule your hours so that you are done with them no earlier than Week 15 of term. Also, do not end your internship without communicating with your mentor/supervisor on how you will conclude your work at the agency.
Failure to submit Completed Paperwork by assigned dates:
This course is the 2nd in your 2-part series of field experience. As a new learning professional, you must understand the importance of documentation and the correct format of documentation. Documents are a requirement of this course: Learning Plan, Completed Hours, Evaluations (Mid-term & Final). These documents must be completed correctly and require the appropriate signatures. Failing to complete these documents correctly will result in deduction of points earned (10% for 1st violation, 20% for 2nd and reoccurring violations) as these documents are graded assignments in this course. You will need to plan accordingly so that you do not miss the due dates of these assignments because they will require that you are working directly with your Internship Site Supervisor/Mentor.
Note #1: Failure to complete 160 Hours for this course results in not Passing this course
