Course Policies & Procedures
Grades
Grades : All grades will be maintained in IvyLearn’s online grade book. Students are responsible for tracking their progress by referring to the online grade book. Students can generally expect to receive grades and feedback within seven days of the assignment due date. If exceptions occur, the instructor may notify students of changes to this expectation. If questions about class policies and procedures or grades arise during or after the semester, you must meet with your instructor to discuss this first prior to speaking with a program chair or any other college representative.
Dates & Deadlines
The Syllabus and Calendar are two important tools to help students understand the course, student and instructor expectations, and deadlines. Both tools can be found in IvyLearn. The Calendar can be accessed from the main navigation area on the left-hand side of IvyLearn.
Students are required to submit work on time for a chance to receive credit. Deadlines for each week/assignment are summarized on the calendar. Students should check the calendar frequently for deadlines and to be aware of what to expect next. Deadlines are listed in Eastern Time and are subject to change.
Students are responsible for timely assignment submission. Should a computer system or network go down, students must still turn in work in a timely manner. Don’t wait until the last minute. Plan ahead by seeking alternative means for submitting work before it is due. Local libraries and all Ivy Tech Community College campuses can serve as alternative resources. Contact the closest/most convenient campus or other public lab for schedules and Internet availability. Not having access to the required software on a home or work computer is not a legitimate excuse for turning in homework late.
General Policies
- The instructor owns the copyright to all original material, and this material may not be duplicated without permission from the instructor.
- Computer/technical problems (printer ran out of ink, computer locked up, flash drive was stolen, etc.) do not constitute an excuse for turning anything in late.
- No late papers or assignments may be turned in during the last week of the semester.
- Being late or not attending class can negatively affect your grade. You are responsible for all missed material due to any absences.
- Student/instructor meetings during office hours (drop-in) or by appointment.
- In case of a documentable emergency, the policies may be adjusted at the discretion of the instructor.
- The last class meeting is the end of the semester. Nothing may be turned in or completed after that date. All graded assignments should be picked up by the end of this meeting.
Classroom Etiquette
- Cell phones must be turned off or put in vibrate mode. Texting, chatting, tweeting, and browsing various other social media sites is not allowed during class unless part of an activity assigned by the instructor. Failure to adhere to this policy could result in a loss of in-class activity points.
- Children under 16 are not allowed in the classroom. Neither are animals, regardless of age.
- You must gain permission from the instructor before you can tape any portion of the class.
- Everyone deserves to be respected for their opinions. This includes your instructor, your classmates, and yourself.
Homework and Assignments
- Homework and assignments are to be submitted via IvyLearn by the due date / time on the course schedule (see last page).
- ONE late homework or assignment may be turned in within one class of the due date with a 20% deduction. You must message me and ask to gain access to the missed assignment. Certain types of homework or assignments may not be turned in late for any amount of credit. These are clearly identified in the class syllabus.
- After one week an assignment or homework will no longer be accepted for credit.
- Please keep in mind, if you do not attend the live session/complete any work during the week, you will be considered absent for the week and your absence will be reported to the program.
Papers, Projects & Class Assignments
- Papers and projects are to be submitted via IvyLearn and are due at the beginning of class on the due date unless otherwise indicated by the instructor.
- The instructor reserves the right to reject any paper that is not completed according to directions given or that fails to meet general college-level standards.
- The responsibility for proof regarding the originality of a paper rests with you, not the instructor.
Non-Attendance Drop – Don’t Get Dropped from Class!
Ivy Tech performs administrative drops for students who do not “attend” class early in the semester. Students need to complete an assignment (which may include, but are not limited to, such things as attending a live or synchronous session; posting in a graded discussion board, blog or wiki; or submitting a written assignment or taking a quiz) prior to the 100% Refund Deadline listed below in order to avoid being dropped for non-attendance. Posting any items not related to the graded assignments will be reviewed but may be disqualified for attendance purposes.
