Course Policies & Procedures

Instructional Method

Weekly live in-person scheduled lectures and labs as per the semester schedule. Internet via the Ivy Tech IvyLearn system for supplements, lecture notes, practice quizzes, credit quizzes, midterm and final exams.

Attendance is mandatory for the lectures and labs since there is no make-up for either.

Each week’s assignments and readings are summarized in the Module and can be accessed from the Calendar button in IvyLearn  and the posted syllabus under the Home page of the Menu at the upper left.

Integrity StatementAll work on credit quizzes,  labs/lab reports, and exams must be “my” own without help from any other individual.

Grades

Grading and Evaluation:

Course grades are available for students by logging into the College’s online student system, IvyLearn.  Grades will not be distributed by mail.

All grades will be maintained in IvyLearn’s online grade book. Students are responsible for tracking their progress by referring to the online grade book. Students can generally expect to receive grades and feedback within seven days of the assignment due date. If exceptions occur, the instructor may notify students of changes to this expectation.

Due Dates & Deadlines

The Syllabus and Calendar are two important tools to help students understand the course, student and instructor expectations, and deadlines. Both tools can be found in IvyLearn.  The Calendar can be accessed from the main navigation area on the left-hand side of IvyLearn.

Students are required to submit work on time for a chance to receive credit. Deadlines for each week's assignments and/or assessments are summarized on the calendar. Given that there is a no late policy for this course, students should check the calendar frequently for deadlines and to be aware of what to expect next. Deadlines are listed in Eastern Time and are subject to change.

Students are responsible for timely assignment submission. Should a computer system or network go down, students must still turn in work in a timely manner. Don’t wait until the last minute. Plan ahead by seeking alternative means for submitting work before it is due. Local libraries and all Ivy Tech Community College campuses can serve as alternative resources. Contact the closest/most convenient campus or other public lab for schedules and Internet availability. Not having access to the required software or internet access on a home or work computer is not a legitimate excuse for submitting any assignments or lab reports late. Please reach out if you need assistance with getting internet access or a loaner laptop to Sandra Senatore-Roberts at ssenatorerobert@ivytech.edu  or Pod 7 directly at pod7@ivytech.edu  or apply directly at  https://ivyassist.auntbertha.com/

Make-Up Policy

Late assignments will be assigned a grade of “0” unless a student has received prior approval from the professor, given the no late submission policy for this course. If a student has a problem or scheduling conflict that prevents the student from submitting an assignment on time, the student should contact the professor immediately. The professor will determine if the seriousness of the problem warrants an extension on the assignment. Unless absolutely unavoidable, students need to contact their instructor before missing the deadline – not after. Instructors have the right to decline accepting work for any credit after a deadline passes with a few specific exceptions, including but not limited to:

  • If there is an outage of the IvyLearn system that is verified by central system administrators, instructors will provide an extension for students to submit work at no penalty.
  • If the student has documentation of serious illness or death of a family member, instructors will work with the student to determine an alternate deadline.

Attendance Policy – Don’t Get Dropped from Class!

Ivy Tech performs administrative drops for students who do not “attend” class early in the semester. Students need to complete an assignment (which may include, but are not limited to, such things as attending a live or synchronous session; posting in a graded discussion board, blog or wiki; or submitting a written assignment or taking a quiz) prior to NW deadline listed below in order to avoid being dropped for non-attendance. Posting any items not related to the graded assignments will be reviewed but may be disqualified for attendance purposes.

Attendance Drop Deadline: 11:59 p.m. Aug. 24,  2021 –  Eastern Time.

100% refund Deadline: 11:59 p.m. Aug. 24, 2021 –  Eastern Time.

Am I Required to Come to Campus for this Course?

Yes, we will meet in-person on campus.

Course Communication

Assignments & Grading

How is my grade calculated?

The grading details for the quizzes, lab reports, midterm lab and lecture exams, final lab and lecture exams are listed in our course syllabus which is uploaded on the Home page of this course and below.

The course grade is equally weighted between the lecture (weekly quizzes/midterm lecture exam/ comprehensive final lecture exam) section and lab section (lab reports, midterm lab exam, and final lab exam). The lecture section accounts for 50% of your course grade and the lab section accounts for 50% of your course grade. You must pass both the lecture AND the lab sections separately to pass the course (a minimum of 60% in each section is passing) or you will receive an F for the course. The final grade is determined by taking 50% of your lecture % out of 350 points as long as it is at least 60% + taking 50% of your lab % out of 350 points as long as it is at least 60%.

Course Total = taking 50% of your lecture % out of 350 points as long as it is at least 60% + taking 50% of your lab % out of 350 points as long as it is at least 60%.

                        Scale:                  A         90 – 100%

                                                    B         80 – 89%

                                                    C         70 – 79%

                                                    D         60 – 69%

                                                    F          below 60%

All lecture quizzes are taken on-line via the Ivy Tech Ivy Learn system. All lab pre and post reports must be submitted by their posted deadlines and times in their correct columns as listed in the semester schedule or as announced in class to be graded. The proctored midterm lecture and lab exams and final lecture and lab exams must be taken during the posted  dates and times as listed in the Semester Schedule of the attached syllabus or as announced by your instructor, since there will be no early, late, or make-up exams given as per the no make-up policy for this course. All lecture quizzes are taken on-line via the Ivy Tech Ivy Learn system.

Lecture Section: 50% of course grade points = 350 points= 150 points from the quizzes + 100 points from the midterm lecture exam and 100 points from the final lecture exam

  1. Quizzes: (6 total) at 25 points each = 150 points
  2. Midterm Lecture Exam :(30 questions) for a total of 100 points.
  3. Comprehensive Final Lecture Exam: (30 questions) for a total of 100 points.

Lab Section: 50% of course grade points= 350 points = 180 points from the lab reports + 85 points from the midterm lab exam + 85 points from the final lab exam

  1. Lab Reports: (6 total) at 30 points each = 180 points
  2. Midterm Lab Exam:  (20 questions) for a total of 85 points
  3. Final Lab Exam: (20 questions) for a total of  85 points
  4. Course Activity Disclaimer: Keep in mind that this is NOT a work at your own pace course and the instructor reserves the right to alter the type and sequence of activities scheduled for this course.  There is a no-late policy and there is no extra credit offered for this course.
